Zach Wilson, LPN
I am writing to commend a remarkable nurse for the compassionate care he provided to my 86-year-old mother during her recent visit to the emergency room, when she thought she was having a reaction to an antibiotic she was taking for a dental infection, but it turned out to be something much more serious that ended with a visit to the ICU at another location.
From the moment Zach Wilson entered the room, he carried out his duties with professionalism and efficiency. However, what truly set him apart was his ability to recognize and respond to my mother's individual needs. When he realized that she was hard of hearing and becoming anxious, he immediately adjusted his approach. He spoke more clearly, at a comfortable volume, and with a tone that was calm, gentle, and reassuring. This simple but meaningful shift made a profound difference in helping her feel more at ease and less afraid. He also demonstrated exceptional sensitivity in the way he communicated about her care. Understanding her fear, Zach thoughtfully explained each step of the process of caring for her, such as giving her various antibiotics and sending bloodwork cultures to the lab, without overwhelming her or focusing on worst-case scenarios. His words were carefully chosen to inform while also providing comfort, allowing her to feel safe rather than alarmed. This was so important to our family because at this point in her life it is much easier to slip into a state of panic and his care helped greatly to prevent this.
In a busy and often high-stress emergency room environment, his ability to slow down, connect, and provide such personalized compassion was truly extraordinary. Zach treated my mother not just as a patient, but as a person deserving of dignity, patience, and kindness. He showed concern, gentle compassion, tenderness, and kindness the entire time. Our family is deeply grateful for the care he provided. It is because of nurses like him that patients and their families can find moments of peace even in difficult circumstances.
