Yanil Rodriguez is an exemplary nurse, who provides culturally competent care to her patients every day. She continually will go that extra mile for every one of her patients, whether it is offering to call a loved one with a patient, playing music that is preferred and familiar for a patient, alleviating the stress of being hospitalized by telling a patient a funny and sweet story, or by just being a positive presence to all those being cared for by her.
In the relatively brief amount of time I have worked with Yanil (as I started here 10 months ago), I can honestly say I've lost count on the number of times she has been able to facilitate compliance with a patient who was previously unwilling to comply with care or directions from other team members. With patients who have an underlying psychiatric illness, are agitated, or who just don't want to be here in the hospital for any number of reasons, Yanil consistently finds a way to connect with them. Under her care, noncompliant patients become more compliant with their treatment, agree to use the call bell when needing to get out of bed, and generally become more willing to work with her. She reaches her patients by utilizing respectful communication, finding common ground, and using humor.
