For me, she is more than a nurse; she is a source of comfort, trust, and confidence during a vulnerable time
A tribute to Ms. Xiu Zhen Lizama, an exceptional nurse at the nursing service at CHCC.

My four-day stay at the hospital, after a labor that transitioned from vaginal to cesarean delivery, was made far more bearable, even hopeful. Thanks to one extraordinary person: Nurse Xiu Zhen. Every interaction with her turned moments of anxiety into comfort, and her care left an indelible mark on my recovery journey. What touched me first was her thoughtfulness toward me and my baby.

As a new mother recovering from surgery, I often worried about my little one's well-being. Without my having to ask, she would practically check on the baby and update me, even detailing how the baby's bump on the head was doing during the check - just to ease my mind. That small act of keeping me informed turned my constant worry into a sense of relief, letting me focus on my own recovery.

Her professional skills are equally impressive. After surgery, my arm was swollen, making IV insertion a challenge. Yet, her technique was so precise and steady that she got the needle in on the first try - no extra pain, no repeated attempts. In that moment, her expertise didn't mean efficient care; it felt like a reassuring reminder that I was in capable hands.

Beyond skill, her ability to connect with patients shines. She is fluent in both English and Chinese, which eliminates any language barriers with Chinese patients, critical when discussing the condition or asking questions. Her demeanor is always gentle and kind, and she consistently anticipates needs before I even voice them: whether it's adjusting my bed for comfort or grabbing the patient's dress without being asked. She just didn't do her job - she thinks ahead to make patients feel cared for, not just treated.

Her professionalism also runs deep. She holds numerous nursing certifications, a testament to her dedication to mastering her craft, and her strong medical knowledge was evident in every conversation. She took the time to patiently explain post-op care tips and warning signs to watch for. Her enthusiasm for helping and her patience with my endless questions made me feel valued, not just like another patient.

For me, she is more than a nurse; she is a source of comfort, trust, and confidence during a vulnerable time. Your hospital is very fortunate to have such a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated professional on your team. I will always be grateful for her.
