His mentorship has shaped my career, but his support and kindness have touched my life.
As his Assistant Patient Care Manager, I have been blessed to learn under his leadership and guidance for many years. Bill consistently invests in my growth by allowing me to take the driver’s seat. When he is on vacation, he has shared that he never worries because he knows I will hold the fort down. This confidence comes directly from the knowledge and trust he has poured into me.
Bill does not just assign tasks; he teaches. He models leadership, then encourages me to step forward.
For example, when I was struggling to understand FTEs and calculations, Bill patiently sat with me, working through the math until I felt confident. From productivity and finance to timecards and even how to approach difficult conversations with staff, Bill has taught me every element of the PCM role with patience and encouragement.
His teaching style often starts with a demonstration, then shifts to, okay, now it’s your turn to drive. That simple but powerful approach has shaped how I learn and lead.
When Bill went on baby bonding leave, he even created videos of himself teaching me how to find and analyze key metrics and gather data to present at leadership meetings with our director, Stephenie Blossomegame. Those videos are treasures I will always cherish, not only because they guided me, but also because they may help another new APCM one day.
That is the type of teacher Bill is: intentional, clear, and always thinking about developing future leaders.
Bill is also deeply invested in my long-term success. During our regular 1:1 meetings, he pushes me to set goals and envision where I want to be in the next few years. He believes in me and pushes me toward the top, preparing me for leadership roles beyond my current position.
Beyond being my PCM, Bill is like the brother I never had. We are truly like peanut butter and jelly. Our leadership partnership is natural, balanced, and built on trust.
