These nurses took care of my very elderly and very ill mom. After receiving the dire diagnosis of cancer, my mother was brought to West Tower 7. From the get-go, her nurses were unbelievably kind, careful with her fragile skin and bones, and so professional that my mom barely knew she was being cared for! The nurses were so kind to me, an extremely worried and exhausted daughter, that after they finished with their gentle, warm, and friendly care of my mom, they brought me a blanket and bedding so I could rest on the couch in the adjoining room. I was so grateful. Such compassion was shown, both to my mother, who was suffering from fear as well as illness, and to myself. I had millions of questions, all answered patiently and in all the details I needed. My mother is a very private woman and was afraid, but the nurses immediately connected with her. On Mom’s last day there, the nurses were all stellar. Even the person who cleaned my mom's room brought my mother all the supplies she asked for. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone! I have never before experienced this kind of nursing attitude and ability! We just knew everything would be fine with any nurse taking care of us. I have now spent many nights in three different hospitals. I spent nights first with my dad, then with my husband, then with my mom. None of those experiences was like this one, and the one variable that made it all different was the level of nursing care received. The words “compassion, compassionate care, integrity, respect, professionalism, accountability, and patient-family centered care” are but a few of the adjectives I’d use to describe the level of care my mother, and by extension, I myself received while my mother was hospitalized. This is a huge achievement, and every single one of the nurses deserves recognition. They truly were the gold standard of care that everyone wishes for. My mother’s nurses worked hard, pulling 12-hour shifts and running from room to room, but they never exhibited any fatigue, impatience, exasperation, or unwillingness to go ten extra miles out of their way to assist my mom. They were ALL exceptional, and we were blown away by the level of care received. We will never forget this experience and never stop publicly telling our neighbors, family, and friends that the team on West Tower 7 provided the kind of nursing care that people wish for. Thank you! We cannot say it enough.
