Working in this field must be incredibly taxing, but Weronika handles it with grace, efficiency, and poise.
How do you talk about someone who literally catered to your every need, but only interacted with for a week? Let me try to describe a nurse who fits that very description. Weronika K. blends the perfect amount of proficiency, patience, professionalism, and personality. Working in this field must be incredibly taxing, but Weronika handles it with grace, efficiency, and poise. Additionally, she’s hilarious, with the ability to laugh at herself, which objectively makes every situation better.

On Thursday, May 15th, I was checked in with limited use of my left side after a recent craniotomy. A migraine sufferer, most of my life, combined with the recent surgery, had me in a world of pain. Enter Weronika. From day one, Weronika handled the entire floor, my roommate and me, like a seasoned pro. She answered all of my questions, updated my sister with new info, contacted the pharmacy with a question I had about my prescription, made sure my medication dosage and frequency were handled perfectly, got my entire medical questionnaire completed, made sure my pain was taken care of and I was as comfortable as I could possibly be, in such an efficient and gentle manner, all in the first night.

Or to describe her proficiency in a graded, checklist form:

• Cared for our mental and physical needs? A++
• Taught us about our health, explained our medications, and listened to our opinions?  A++
• Made us feel safe? A++
• Made a positive impact on every person they interacted with? A++
• Made us feel truly cared for and respected as human beings? A++
• Worked with us and our families to create a happy, healthful habitat? A++ (I say us, instead of me, because Weronika treated every single patient with the same level of care).
• *Made my roommate and me roar with laughter, while she completed every medically necessary function with knowledge, skill, and a nigh magical, deft touch? A++

She gave us privacy whenever possible, safety and care, always, and made sure that if we needed anything, she was there, two steps ahead. This woman is a superhero and made a monumentally difficult medical situation seem a lot less dire. If I could give her a raise, to $1000/hr, and a plaque on every wall in this hospital, I would. She deserves all of the recognition, appreciation, and compensation in the world. Thank you, Weronika, you’re a gem.
