Wenna came to see me, sat with me, and talked through my fears. It was above and beyond, and I truly felt cared for.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After meeting with doctors and being given treatment options, Wenna took the time to go through everything with me again. She explained each option clearly and simply, helping me make the best decision for myself. After every appointment, she would stay with me for a few minutes to make sure I understood everything, answer any questions, and check on my emotional wellbeing. Her regular phone calls were always supportive and caring — her kindness made a huge difference.
Throughout my treatment, she kept everything organised and made sure I knew what to expect at every stage. She guided me on where and when to get support if I needed it. When I found it difficult to understand what would be involved in my breast surgery, she arranged extra appointments to explain the different procedures, their benefits, and what results I could expect.
Losing my hair was something I struggled with deeply. She listened, reassured me, and connected me with charities that support self-image during treatment. At one point, she mentioned that the multidisciplinary team did not have much visual information to show patients about certain procedures. She took it upon herself to work with the surgical nurses to update their portfolio, recognising the need and making a positive change.
During chemotherapy, I became very unwell and spent a week in hospital. I felt extremely low and asked to speak with someone who knew me as a person, not just a name on a chart. Wenna came to see me, sat with me, and talked through my fears. It was above and beyond, and I truly felt cared for.
In our home, Wenna became someone very special. My children would ask after her because they knew she was taking care of me and making sure everything was in place. To us, she became our hero.
She has been the key communicator between all the different healthcare departments involved in my care — and there have been many. Whenever I mentioned her to other professionals, they would immediately say how lovely she is and how good she is at her job. She also connected me with others who had been on the cancer journey, which helped me feel less alone.
To me, she is kind-hearted, patient, caring, and always ready to listen. She gets things done, and she does so with a gentle smile that brings comfort during the hardest moments.
Thank you so much for everything.
