Beyond outcomes and projects, Wendy’s compassion is evident in the small but profound ways she supports her colleagues.
Whether staying late after a night shift to support a new graduate nurse or spending Christmas on the unit to make her team feel appreciated, Wendy Rosen embodies the compassionate spirit of a nurse educator.
As Clinical Nurse Educator for Maternal-Newborn at Inspira Health, Wendy has created an environment where learners feel safe, supported, and inspired to flourish. Her open-door policy, presence during off-shifts, and genuine investment in staff wellbeing reflect her belief that compassion is the foundation of learning and patient care.
Wendy also facilitates a spirit of inquiry and lifelong learning through scholarship, research, and innovation. In 2024 alone, she presented at the national AWHONN conference on an interprofessional newborn fall prevention program, served as primary investigator for a research study testing the validity and reliability of a novel fall assessment tool specific to the maternal population called the PRAFT, and co-led an IRB-approved quality improvement initiative to introduce early skin-to-skin contact in the operating room.
Her peer-reviewed publication on the development of a couplet care acuity tool further demonstrates her ability to advance nursing knowledge and translate evidence into practice. These initiatives are not abstract projects; they have produced real results: two consecutive years with zero newborn falls, hypertension treatment within one hour in 90% of cases, and measurable improvements in maternal safety.
Wendy also promotes the development and advancement of learners' professional identity. She served as the primary preceptor for a graduate student completing an MSN program, while simultaneously mentoring staff nurses through unit-based councils and the Physiological Birth Committee. Her guidance has empowered teams to achieve goals such as reducing the NTSV (Nulli-parous, Term, Singleton, Vertex) C-section rate below the Leapfrog benchmark and successfully implementing the AIM (Alliance for Innovation) Cardiac Safety Bundle.
By chairing multiple committees and encouraging staff-led initiatives, Wendy equips learners not only with clinical skills but also with confidence, leadership, and professional voice. Furthermore, Wendy bridges theoretical concepts to clinical practice and promotes critical thinking and judgment. Through her leadership in evidence-based initiatives, she ensures staff (maternal-newborn and new graduate nurse residency nurses) are prepared to apply research findings at the bedside, leading to safer, more effective, and patient-centered care.
Beyond outcomes and projects, Wendy’s compassion is evident in the small but profound ways she supports her colleagues. After particularly difficult deliveries, she brings the Care Cart to staff on off-shifts as a gesture of empathy and encouragement. She volunteers to work holidays, leads interdisciplinary drills to prepare teams for emergencies, and delivers Thanksgiving meals to families in need. These acts of service reflect her belief that creating a culture of care is as important as clinical expertise.
Wendy Rosen is more than an expert resource. She is a transformational leader who cultivates inquiry, professional growth, and compassionate practice in all she does. Through her scholarship, mentorship, and deep compassion, she is shaping the future of maternal-newborn nursing in New Jersey.
