Even when my mom wasn't her patient or even on the unit Wanda was assigned to, she would still stop by to say hello and check in.
Wanda has cared for my mother many times over the past few years. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2022, my mom had her first inpatient stay in early 2023, and Wanda was one of the very first nurses we met. Since then, my mom has spent more time in the hospital than at home, and Wanda has quickly become a familiar and comforting face. We would even joke at the start of each stay, saying, I hope we see Wanda this time! Whenever my mom was under her care, she would always rave about Wanda's kindness, humor, and attentiveness. Wanda listened, laughed, and joked with her, helping to ease some of the toughest days. Even when my mom wasn't her patient or even on the unit Wanda was assigned to, she would still stop by to say hello and check in. That small gesture always brightened my mom's spirits and meant so much to both of us. More recently, as my mom has faced some particularly difficult moments, Wanda has continued to bring her laughter, comfort, and encouragement. She embodies the very best of nursing: compassionate, present, and genuinely invested in her patients. The difference she has made in my mom's care and in our family's journey is immeasurable, and we are so grateful for her.
