Vivian works with me in the Cardiac ICU, is a relief charge nurse, and is a member of our CICU Wellness team. She's also one of our Shift Admins. 

There is nothing that Viv can't do. I know that when Viv is on shift that it is going to be a great day. She thinks ahead, planning for the next step in a very unpredictable environment. She checks in with families early, and you can watch them take a deep breath because she has such a calming presence. When caring for patients, she pays attention to all of the smallest details in the busiest of assignments. She prioritizes comfort and family needs, thinking holistically about our patients and their families. 

The CICU Wellness team has become an integral part of our unit. As a member, Viv comes in to round with our staff regularly. She doesn't just check in with nursing but also with our CNAs, RTs, and providers. Our Wellness Team has worked tirelessly to ensure that our team knows they have someone to turn to. Our turnover has been reduced dramatically - it was zero in the first 6 months of the program. There is a renewed sense of teamwork, camaraderie, and genuine care for peers in our unit. 

Viv has led by example during all of her rounding and clinical shifts. Viv asks you how you are and means it; she wants a real answer and to know your heart. Because of the work Viv has been a part of, our unit is a better place. Our team works better together. We can focus on our patients knowing that someone has our back on our worst days. She is always there to check in, to offer a joke or a warm hug.
