I may not be better physically, but this man healed my heart and mind and restored my faith in humanity when it was almost irrevocably broken. I hope every patient going through turmoil has the chance to meet and be treated by a Vince in their lives.
During one of the lowest and sickest times in my life, both physically and socially, Nurse Vince was a light in a sea of darkness. I had been admitted to the hospital. I was distraught, wondering if I'd made the wrong decision to even seek care, but my kidneys were failing. I slept and hoped for a better day tomorrow. And it came.

A ray of sunshine walked in, told me his name and a joke, made me smile, and asked if there was anything I needed. Automatically, the atmosphere was different. And unlike the other staff, he didn't treat me like a leper but with dignity, authentic care, and genuine concern. I felt I could trust this man. He was the type I would want as a friend or neighbor in my real life.

Vince popped in and out all day. He promptly answered my call bell and brought me whatever I needed, even if it meant putting in special orders. When I was hungry after two weeks of poverty and relative starvation, he made me a care package of snacks I could eat. And what I remember most is that due to my hardships, I had not indulged in water ice for months because I couldn't afford it. In one of Vince's care packages throughout the day was a tiny water ice. The gesture made me cry and so happy. I felt like a human again, like I was worth something. It reminded me that life was still worth fighting for, and it's the little things.

Vince also went above and beyond, making sure I got my dinner trays on time, which was important for my condition, and addressing my food insecurity issues. I've had a lot of nurses over the years as a chronically ill person, and good ones, but never one like Vince. When he told me what time his shift was ending, I almost cried.

Vince also texted with me throughout the day, empathizing with how I felt about being in isolation, and kept me updated about doctor arrivals, when meals were coming, and when he would be coming to address wound care and other issues. The man is the epitome of concierge nurse service. If you could replicate Vince in the world, you could revolutionize patient care as we know it!

I may not be better physically, but this man healed my heart and mind and restored my faith in humanity when it was almost irrevocably broken. I hope every patient going through turmoil has the chance to meet and be treated by a Vince in their lives. It could mean a world of difference in patient outcomes, as treatment isn't the only thing that cures people like me.

I wholeheartedly hope you consider Vince for this award. He goes above and beyond, and it's changed my outlook in a matter of hours! Please give this man his flowers and accolades. It's the ordinary people in life who make for extraordinary experiences for others.
