Her care gave me the strength and courage to move forward, knowing I was in the hands of a true professional who would see that everything necessary was done.
I have known Viji Mathew for more than two years, and during that time I have come to trust her professionalism, judgement, and clinical expertise without reservation. Whenever I have attended her clinics, she has consistently demonstrated an exceptional depth of knowledge in her specialty. She is highly proficient, confident in her practice, and always willing to share her expertise without hesitation.

Recently, I witnessed these qualities paired with profound empathy, understanding, and compassion, attributes that elevate her to an entirely different level of nursing excellence. This combination of skill and humanity supported me through one of the most difficult experiences of my life.

After my fourth visit to my GP and the emergency department, I was told I may have cancer, a word that instantly shakes your world, makes your life flash before your eyes, and forces you to confront your own mortality. After giving me a little time to process this devastating information, my wife contacted Viji to seek her guidance and support.

She immediately took action. She reviewed my bloodwork and scans, ordered additional blood tests, and promptly discussed my case with a consultant. Her calm, methodical approach and decisive follow-through brought a sense of stability back into a moment filled with overwhelming fear. After speaking with her, I felt reassured that she had everything under control and that the right steps would be taken without delay.

When further tests were completed, she was waiting for the phone call to hear how things had gone, demonstrating not only her commitment but her genuine concern. Thankfully, these results showed that my condition was treatable and manageable. Hearing the word "cancer"  from a healthcare professional was enough to send me into panic. It was this nurse’s steady, knowledgeable, and compassionate response that guided me out of that fear.

When you are dependent on another human being to help you through a frightening and uncertain journey, it requires trust. But when that trust is reinforced by empathy, understanding, knowledge, and confidence, it becomes something far more meaningful. It becomes a lifeline. Her care gave me the strength and courage to move forward, knowing I was in the hands of a true professional who would see that everything necessary was done.

When we later gifted her flowers, she simply said she was “only doing her job.” But being exceptional at your job requires integrity, genuine compassion, and a work ethic that is rare. She demonstrated all of these qualities to both me and my wife, and it meant far more than she realises.

She was not merely doing her job; she was making a profound difference, and for that, we are truly grateful.
