September 2026 Honoree
Victoria Wakefield, BSN, RN
It is my absolute privilege to commend Victoria Wakefield. As a member of our pediatric flex team, she floats between multiple units and consistently brings exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism wherever she goes. Over the last several shifts in our Pediatric CVICU, she has stepped into some incredibly high-stress, emotionally taxing, and clinically heavy assignments with remarkable grace and resilience. Despite the intensity of these shifts, Victoria never wavered in the quality of care she provided. She approached every challenge with calm determination, diligence, and unwavering focus on what mattered most: her patients and their families. She fiercely advocated for her patients even during moments of significant stress and pressure, ensuring their needs were heard, addressed, and prioritized at every step. Her ability to remain composed while delivering safe, compassionate, and thoughtful care was truly inspiring to witness.
What makes Victoria especially deserving of this recognition is not only her clinical excellence, but the kindness and support she consistently extends to those around her. She is always willing to help teammates without hesitation, offers encouragement during difficult moments, and contributes positively to the culture of every unit she works on. Her work ethic, attention to detail, and genuine compassion exemplify the very best of pediatric nursing. In an environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential, Victoria exceeds expectations time and time again. She seamlessly integrates into unfamiliar teams, earns the trust of patients and staff alike, and consistently demonstrates the heart of a DAISY nurse. Our patients, families, and staff are incredibly fortunate to have her, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.

I would like to recognize Victoria for the exceptional compassion and kindness she demonstrated while caring for one of our PICU patients. During this particular interaction, the patient was upset, crying, and in need of comfort. She was also battling a case of head lice that had made other caregivers (including her family) hesitant to get close to her. Victoria lacked all hesitation. She did not see a diagnosis or a condition - she saw a child who needed comfort. Without a second thought, Victoria picked the patient up, held her, and provided the human connection that she desperately needed. This kind of compassion cannot be taught, and Victoria demonstrates it every shift she spends with us in the PICU. She is consistently going above and beyond for her patients in order to fulfill their physical and emotional needs. She reminds us that nursing is more than administering medications, assisting with procedures, and documenting assessments - it is about providing comfort to those who need it the most. The image of Victoria cradling this patient is one that I will never forget. Her extraordinary compassion, dedication, and empathy are exactly what the DAISY Award was created to recognize. I cannot think of a more worthy recipient.
