I am so grateful we had a nurse as special as Vicky, so that Nana still feels her dignity.
My Nana suffered a stroke that rendered her unable to do the basic things that make any person feel good about themselves. She can't get up to use the bathroom or wash herself, and she can barely speak. We are bringing her home for in-home hospice.

There are many of us who will be helping, and so many who love her! Enter Vicky. She patiently showed us throughout her shift how to slide chucks under her when we need to begin cleaning her after urinating. It is a lot of work, and she was so patient. We had to learn how to roll her properly from side to side, use creams and sprays. She answered endless questions, never making us feel like we were wasting her time or bothering her.

She wasn’t condescending to my Nana either. In this situation, a lot of healthcare workers tend to talk to older people like their little kids, thinking that they don’t know what’s going on. My Nana very much does know what’s going on, even if she can’t communicate well. I am so grateful we had a nurse as special as Vicky, so that Nana still feels her dignity. She truly went above and beyond in so many ways.
