r empathetic communication, gentle demeanor, and unwavering commitment to excellence made a profound impact on the patient, their family, and the staff.
Her clinical faculty recognized that Victoria’s journey into nursing is one of resilience, compassion, and deep personal purpose. Having previously battled a serious medical issue herself, Victoria bravely returned to nursing school and was assigned to complete her clinical rotation on the very unit where she once received care.

Rather than being hindered by her past, she drew strength from it. She approached each clinical day with focus, preparation, and professionalism. Her lived experience as a patient gave her an unmatched ability to build trust and offer truly therapeutic communication to her patients. She connected with them on a level that many cannot—offering not just clinical care but hope, understanding, and presence.

As she assisted the nurse and the resident MD in communicating with the patient’s family, the nurse stated that Victoria went above and beyond and displayed great compassion and patience throughout the interaction. Her empathetic communication, gentle demeanor, and unwavering commitment to excellence made a profound impact on the patient, their family, and the staff.

Her courage to return to the unit where she once fought for her life, and to serve others with dignity and compassion, is nothing short of extraordinary. Victoria’s performance and attitude reflect the very spirit of the DAISY Award, which honors extraordinary nursing students who demonstrate exceptional compassion and dedication to patient care.
