My mother would have adored Victoria; her kindness, empathy, and genuine compassion have been one of the biggest benefits beyond her nursing skill and knowledge during my treatment.
I was admitted to the hospital due to being struck and severely injured by a vehicle while taking a walk with my mom. My mom was killed in the incident. I suffered a broken pelvis, a broken left arm bone, a brain bleed, and a kidney laceration. On top of the physical pain, I was also suffering from the mental and emotional anguish of losing my mom, something that is still unimaginable to me as I write this. My mother was a nurse for over 40 years and retired a few years ago from Saint Joseph’s Hospital. She was an amazing woman and nurse; when I say that Victoria reminds me of the nurse and woman she was, it is not a light compliment or fluff. Her heart for her patient’s physical, mental, and emotional health is abundantly clear, just like my mom always was. My mother would have adored Victoria; her kindness, empathy, and genuine compassion have been one of the biggest benefits beyond her nursing skill and knowledge during my treatment. I don’t think I would have had as stable or beneficial a time at San Joaquin General Hospital without her presence. As I had moments of breakdown, anxiety, overwhelming emotion, exhaustion, and stress, etc., she always had the right attention and often response to provide. Even if she had nothing to say, her gentle hand on my arm, or shoulder, or holding my hand provided me with the peace and support necessary to keep going. Consistently, throughout my time at the hospital, she took the time to check in on me both physically, mentally, and emotionally in such a fashion that I wonder how she maintains her constant positive attitude and gentle smile. She is the type of nurse I hope to always have if I need one, and that I hope will always be available to my family when they need one.
