I arrived feeling miserable and dehydrated after completing the prep. I asked if any Vaseline was available for my chapped lips, but unfortunately, there was none. While Vicki started my IV, we chatted and laughed, which improved my mood. She genuinely listened to me when I shared my past bad experiences with IV insertion in my right hand. Then, she returned with a tube of chapstick, which was wonderful and made my world feel a bit brighter. Although it may not seem like much, it really helped me stop fixating on the peeling skin on my lips. She made me feel heard and comforted. This simple act of kindness significantly reduced my stress level, paving the way for a better outcome for the procedure. Vicki didn’t have to go the extra mile, but she did.
