My mother was on South 9 this past year and received such compassionate care. She has Parkinson's Disease, is confused at times, and really struggles to find a balance to her days. She needed lots of care and help. We had a very special nurse on South 9 and I want to recognize her.
Veronica Ponce was truly an angel. From the moment she took my mother as a patient, she was kind, gentle, caring and solely focused on her. She always got down to my mother's level to make eye contact and made her feel like she was special. I watched every person coming and going from my mother's room during the stay and saw amazing care, but Veronica truly stood out as your exceptional nurse. Not only did she offer such great care, but she also did the little things that mattered. Mother loves milkshakes. Of course, a strawberry milkshake arrived from Veronica. The greatest gift was Veronica giving my mother beautiful reflections/scriptures to start her day. She placed these on her table to see and for us to read.
My family and I can't say enough about the time Veronica spent with Mother. I happen to know she had other patients because I stood in the hall at times just observing and counted the rooms she went into. Never was she rushed, hurried, or seemed to act if Mother was not her only patient. Veronica should be the poster nurse for Covenant for sure. My sister also just raved about the care from all, but especially Veronica. She talked to Veronica a lot and found that she loves nursing, the patients, and the special care she can give her patients.
On another note. I also want you to know, we had had lots of occasions to be at the hospitals in Lubbock over the past few years and Covenant hands down is by far the greatest place to receive care. You have something "magic" that I hope never gets lost. I know you have great leadership when the Nursing Director and Nurse Manager are checking in on us too.
Thank you for making a lasting impression with my family, but more importantly treating my mother with such respect and compassion.
