Veronica Gregg, Registered Nurse

I am nominating Roni Gregg for the DAISY Award for the exceptional, compassionate care she provided to my grandfather during his hospitalizations at St. Luke’s Monroe Campus over the past year. My grandfather faced a long and difficult battle with Squamous and small-cell lung cancer, COPD, and GI bleeding. Over the course of the past year, he was hospitalized approximately nine times. During his final admissions, many wonderful staff members cared for him, but Ronnie stood out for her extraordinary kindness, skill, and humanity toward both my grandfather and our family. From the moment she entered the room, we could feel the calm and compassion that came with her presence. Ronnie not only provided expert medical care to keep my grandfather comfortable, but she also took the time to speak gently to him, hold his hand, and reassure our family during moments of fear and uncertainty. She made sure we, as a family, felt comfortable, and she shared loving advice and reassurance when we needed it most. Even when our family was exhausted and emotional, Ronnie treated us with incredible patience and understanding. She explained every procedure clearly, kept us informed of his condition, and made sure he was comfortable and treated with dignity in his final days. Ronnie clearly saw my grandfather not just as a patient, but as a person, someone with a story, a family, and a life worth honoring. Her compassion and professionalism made an immeasurable difference and brought us peace during one of the most difficult times in our lives. Our family will forever remember Ronnie Gregg for the care and respect she showed to my grandfather and to all of us. It takes a truly special person to do what she does every day, and I wholeheartedly believe Ronnie embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
