Vee easily and quickly transitioned her conversation with the girls to be a question and answer time to bring some comfort and clarity to the girls and their coaches.
Vee and I work together on various community outreach events. This week, we had an opportunity to provide basic health education at the Girls On The Run Day Camp (4th & 5th grade girls). Vee signed up for the first day presentation, intending to educate about Stop the Bleed.  However, when she arrived, she learned that one of the girls had experienced a seizure, an ambulance had to be called, and the girls were quite upset. Vee easily and quickly transitioned her conversation with the girls to be a question and answer time to bring some comfort and clarity to the girls and their coaches. The girls expressed concern about the situation and asked questions like, What is the difference between a seizure, heart attack, and asthma? Is what happened to our friend contagious? Where did the ambulance take her? It is a blessing that Vee was scheduled for this day because of all the presenters scheduled for the week, she is the clinical RN who has the skills to provide pointed questions as the ones she answered for the girls.

Vee easily collaborated with camp leadership, adjusted the course, and provided invaluable comfort to girls who did not understand what had happened or the impact of the event on them or their friends. She was also able to bring some comfort to the whole group. I got an email from one of the leaders stating, "I wanted to say thank you so much to Vee for her ability to shift gears after a medical emergency we had on Monday. She was very patient with the kids and helped them with their questions."  From this, we have begun planning for future education to the Girls On The Run coaches regarding Stop the Bleed, CPR/First Aid, and basic medical emergency response. When we are able to adjust our plan to meet an immediate need, we make our community a better place.  Thank you to Vee for doing just that!
