As both a patient and a nurse, I understand firsthand the profound impact exceptional nursing care can have during a vulnerable time. Because of that, this nomination does not come lightly. It is with the utmost respect and gratitude that I nominate Valentino for the DAISY Award.
I came to the hospital following a hysterectomy with significant post-surgical bleeding and severe pain. It was a confusing and physically exhausting experience, and I felt incredibly vulnerable. From the moment Valentino became involved in my care, he exemplified everything that nursing should be. He consistently demonstrated compassion, patience, empathy, professionalism, and genuine kindness. More importantly, he made me feel like a person, not just another patient.
Valentino took the time to listen to my concerns without making me feel rushed. He advocated for me when it mattered most and ensured that my voice was heard throughout my care. He continuously checked in on me, kept me informed about what was happening, and made sure I understood each step of my treatment. His communication was exceptional, easing my anxiety and providing reassurance during an uncertain and stressful time.
As my discharge approached, Valentino carefully reviewed all of my discharge instructions and education. He made certain I understood everything before I left and encouraged me to ask questions, ensuring I felt confident continuing my recovery at home. I never felt hurried or dismissed, a quality that has unfortunately become increasingly rare in healthcare since the pandemic.
As a fellow nurse, I recognize the demands, challenges, and emotional weight that come with this profession. Despite those challenges, Valentino never allowed them to diminish the quality of care he provided. He embodied the very heart of nursing by treating me with dignity, respect, and compassion while advocating for my best interests every step of the way.
Valentino is the kind of nurse every patient hopes to have, and every healthcare organization should be proud to employ. His dedication to compassionate, patient-centered care is exactly what the DAISY Award was created to recognize.
