Our staff is innovative, courageous, kind, and compassionate.
Our Ronald Reagan UCLA 4ICU has an amazing team who were known for excellent teamwork and collaboration throughout the years. Our amazing Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Champions applied their expertise in providing elbow support and training throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to help our staff and other units with PPE donning and doffing practice to ensure safety. Despite all the fear and anxiety that we were facing as the designated COVID ICU, our staff stepped up to lead by example. They embody our UCLA Health Mission to deliver leading-edge patient care, research, and education. They went above and beyond to exemplify our Values to ensure Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Teamwork, Excellence, and Discovery in the work we do daily.
Our staff is innovative, courageous, kind, and compassionate. Many grateful patients and families sent emails and thank you cards to thank the staff for their highly skilled and humanistic approaches in providing patient care. The 4ICU staff started the IV pumps outside patient rooms, piloted, and utilized UVGI germicidal decontamination of N95 masks, perfected the proning for ARDS patients, and conducted numerous research studies. Our hospital’s year-to-date hospitalized COVID patients’ survival rate is quite high at 91%. We pioneered using Zoom for family virtual visits and live concerts for patients, coordinated wedding ceremonies for patients who wouldn’t otherwise attend outside of the hospital, and created mementos for our dying patients’ families to cherish. We even operated an 8-bed Expansion ICU on another floor during the highest peak of COVID-19 surge in January 2021. The list goes on and on, all with the patients and their loved ones at the center of care. We also have so much gratitude for all the other departments’ support and for the outpouring of community support. We would not be where we are without your support!
