March 2026 Honoree
Tyler Wilmore, RN
One situation that stands out as a perfect example of Tyler's DAISY-worthy care occurred when a medically complex patient arrived at the clinic distraught, confused, and on the verge of walking out. The patient had been navigating multiple appointments across different specialties with little coordination, leading to missed labs, inconsistent care plans, and a growing sense of hopelessness.
Although Nurse Tyler was not assigned to this patient that day, she immediately stepped in after overhearing their distress. She sat with the patient and calmly asked questions to understand what was happening. She reviewed the patient’s chart, noticed discrepancies in referrals and orders, and promptly connected with multiple departments to clarify the plan of care. She then took the time to walk the patient through each step, making follow-up appointments, scheduling labs, and ensuring they left with a written and verbal plan. What could have been a crisis of care became a moment of healing and clarity because Tyler didn’t walk past the problems; she walked toward them. At the end of the visit, the patient cried tears of relief, stating, “You saved me today. I didn’t think anyone would care enough to help me figure this out.” That moment captures exactly why Nurse Tyler deserves the DAISY Award: she saw a person in need and responded with compassion, excellence, and advocacy- the core of what nursing is truly about.
