March 2026 Honoree
Tyler Hardyman, BSN, RN
All the nurses we encountered were simply amazing individuals. demonstrating professionalism, kindness, and extensive knowledge. Each nurse invested time answering our many questions about my mother's daily progress and condition. Standing among such exceptional talent is no easy feat. However, one nurse particularly distinguished-himself during my mother's recovery in the ICU.
My mother had suffered from a subarachnoid hemorrhage and required an hourly assessment to check for signs of vasospasm and to gauge her neurological progress. Initially, Tyler Hardyman began this assessment like every other nurse before him, first trying to get a thumbs-up from my mother. When he didn't receive the response he was looking for, he went the extra mile. Instead of moving on to another test, Tyler gently released my mother's left wrist from the padded cuff · and lifted her arm. This thoughtful approach not only tested for strength but also helped with her circulation. He then used one hand to gently rub her thumb, repeating his command calmly, clearly, and encouragingly.
To both my sister's and my surprise, my mother began to wiggle her thumb. Tyler continued the assessment with the same focus and expertise, allowing my mother ample time to complete each task before moving on to the next. The following day, Tyler continued to shine in ways that truly touched our hearts. During our morning visit, we noticed small but meaningful changes in the room. The lights were dimmed, and my mother was positioned comfortably; a pair of socks were by her side, taken off due to a fever she had been fighting. Most notably, Tyler had placed a family photo we brought on the table closer to my mother, ensuring it was within her view should she open her eyes.
It was clear that Tyler was there not just to do a job, but to provide exceptional care filled with compassion and thoughtfulness. His actions made a significant impact during a challenging time, and for this, he deserves special recognition through the DAISY Award.
