Tricia Westcott-Kelly, RN

The Medical Unit recently cared for a 23-year-old patient whose hospitalization extended beyond 30 days and who was ultimately transitioned to comfort-focused care. Throughout his stay, Tricia Westcott-Kelly provided care that was truly extraordinary. Tricia developed a meaningful and trusting relationship with both the patient and his mother. She knew how to be firm when needed while still providing compassion, reassurance, and unwavering support. She consistently advocated for the patient, ensured his needs were met, and helped his mother understand what to expect as he approached the end of his life.

Tricia has a special gift for caring for patients and families during some of their most difficult moments. She calmly explains the dying process, answers questions honestly, and provides comfort in a way that helps families feel less alone. Because of the relationship Tricia built with this family, she was able to be present and support the patient and his mother when he passed away. Many staff members have shared how proud they are to work alongside Tricia and to witness the care she provided. Her compassion, advocacy, clinical knowledge, and ability to support patients and families at the end of life are remarkable. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award than Tricia.
