I am an ER nurse in Quitman, and I found myself facing a possible cancer diagnosis in October 2023. A large tumor was removed from my arm and after surgery my incision opened causing a large hole, deep enough to see my bicep. I was then referred to Tracy for wound care. I WAS SCARED. I was still holding on to the thought and uncertainty that it could be cancer. But I was very sure I had a large hole in my arm. I was unsure as to what my future held until by God’s grace and blessing, the tumor was benign.

Tracy accepted the challenge of healing my wound. She dressed it several times a week. She taught me how to help the wound heal by providing instruction on nutrition, vitamins, and supplements to take to give my body what it needed to heal. Tracy applied a wound vac to help speed up the healing process. BUT most of all she gave me her personal phone number, “Saying call me anytime if you need anything or have a question”. AND SHE REALLY MEANT THAT. Some days I would be ok with all of it emotionally, other days I just cried… and cried. On those days Tracy took special care of not just my wound, but also me as another human being who was suffering both physically and emotionally. I think I made her cry a couple of times. Tracy has such a calming spirit and an empathetic soul that by the time my dressing was finished, she would give me a hug, wipe my tears away and say, “Call me anytime.” I always left feeling hopeful and uplifted and in peace. Tracy is an angel in disguise.

My very large wound was completely healed by the beginning of month 3. I know the outcome would have been very different if anyone else had been my wound nurse. Tracy not only helped heal my wound, she also helped heal a tiny broken piece of my soul. I am forever thankful to God, to UT, to my doctors, coworkers, but most of all to TRACY WHINERY for being an angel of healing…. A very special nurse!
