Tracy was caring for a critically ill patient who was assigned to a Med-Surg unit. She recognized that the patient's complex condition needed a higher level of care in order to be treated in the safest manner. Despite the need to admit the patient to the floor in order to care for the numerous patients already overflowing in the ED, she held them and attempted to further stabilize them before transfer.
When the time came that she could no longer hold the patient and she realized that their safety could be in jeopardy, Tracy went above and beyond. She advocated for her patient by contacting the Rapid Response Nurse, Charge Nurse of the accepting unit, and the Clinical Coordinator in an attempt to find a better solution. When that solution wasn't an option Tracy gladly contacted the attending MD at a ridiculous time of the night and persuaded them to change the admitting location to a more suitable unit. Tracy showed her true passion for nursing and care for her patient. She took the extra time that she didn't have in order to ensure that the patient received the highest level of care and that their safety was of the utmost priority. Tracy is the type of nurse that I want to care for my family and loved ones. I am so proud to be a part of a team of nurses like Tracy. Thank you, Tracy!
