My husband and I walked into Good Samaritan Hospital knowing that it would be the worst day of our lives. I was 33 weeks pregnant with our daughter, S, who had a terminal diagnosis. We had to deliver early because I had developed heart failure. Sara was my nurse, and she was training Tori that day. From the moment they walked into our room, they showed us only kindness and compassion. Before I was wheeled down to the OR, Sara asked if she could pray with us. We all bowed our heads, and she raised us up to God, asking that he would be with us. It was exactly what we needed at the moment. After S was born, she lived a beautiful 61 minutes. During that time, Sara and Tori were near if we needed them, but also gave us space to be with our daughter. Later that day, when my three boys came to see us, Tori asked if they wanted to push the button to play the lullaby overhead so everyone would know that their baby sister was born. I will never forget that day. Not just because of the profound sadness I felt, but also because of the amazing care my family and I received from Sara and Tori.
