Tori is an amazing nurse! There was a young mother who had aggressive leukemia. The patient was gravely ill, and code status was becoming a conversation. There was talk about bringing her 9-month-old to the unit. Unfortunately, the rule was not to allow children on the unit. Rather than accept this, she went above and beyond, calling the medical team, the infectious disease department, ethics, and made it happen. The moment the patient was able to hold her baby, the change was dramatic; she started to recover and make enough progress to eventually discharge home. I am thoroughly convinced that had Tori not gone the extra mile, the patient might have had a different outcome.
