Tonya has since taken on bigger roles and has risen to the occasion as Parkridge Hospital worked toward Magnet redesignation.
I would like to nominate Tonya Fulbright for the DAISY Leadership Award. Tonya has been a team member on the Oaks for five years and has functioned as an Assistant Nurse Manager for approximately three years.
In the three years since Tonya took on the role of ANM, she has grown immensely, taking on multiple projects for the Oaks and Parkridge. She has become well qualified in blending her clinical expertise with her administrative leadership. Tonya has immersed herself in roles that have sharpened her leadership skills, created a positive culture on the Oaks, and advanced the goals of the organization.
Tonya’s initial expertise came from leading the unit two days a week as an expert charge RN, leading nurses and PSTs in the daily operations of the Oaks. As Tonya became more confident in her role, she assisted with scheduling, payroll, and meeting with team members for professional development. Tonya has since taken on bigger roles and has risen to the occasion as Parkridge Hospital worked toward Magnet redesignation. Tonya not only ensured the Oaks was prepared but also worked throughout the redesignation to ensure the overall Magnet visit was smooth, collaborating closely with executive leadership and other Magnet champions. When Parkridge was preparing for Joint Commission inspections, Tonya threw herself into the preparation, conducting countless audits and meeting with team members to improve the work being done on the Oaks, as well as assisting throughout the visit wherever needed. Tonya has since continued to audit opportunities at the Oaks to support ongoing improvement. Tonya consistently emails team members to thank them for improving their work processes or to educate them on how to improve them.
Tonya is also overseeing an ambulation process improvement plan for our spine patients to ensure that the Oaks team ambulates on the day of surgery. Recently, Tonya has participated in throughput meetings and has asked to be permanently involved so that she can learn, grow, and be productive in helping the Oaks meet their throughput goals. It is an honor to work with such a dedicated assistant nurse manager and leader, and I request that she be given serious consideration for the DAISY Leader Award. Thank you!

It has been a treasure seeing Tonya transition from floor nurse to one of the ANMs on the Oaks. She is knowledgeable and diligent in everything she does. She is incredible, approachable, helpful, and always willing to help. She is one of our few IV ultrasound nurses in the unit. With any question, she knows or knows how to locate the answer. I pray she never leaves!
