September 2026 Honoree
Tony Sykes, RN
I am an exceedingly difficult stick for IV lines. Most medical staff ignore my attempts to share my vein history, which usually leads to multiple painful and unnecessary pokes. Tony completely changed my experience through his unmatched expertise, deep compassion, and true professionalism. On one occasion, my husband brought me to the emergency department. Another nurse had already made three attempts just to draw my labs, and I felt absolute dread thinking about the upcoming IV insertion. A nurse came to the waiting room and told me Tony saw my name on the board. He specifically asked the team to let him place my line once I got a room. That simple act of awareness and care instantly put me at ease. It was far beyond the call of duty. Tony stands out because he treats patients as real people who need comfort and safety, not just as medical tasks. He listened closely to every question and made sure I felt heard and valued.
Thank you, Tony, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
