August 2026 Honoree
Toniko Turner, RN
This Mother’s Day, I received the greatest gift – my life – and I owe it to an extraordinary nurse who refused to accept “good enough” when it came to my care. Following a post-C-section complication, after I got readmitted to the hospital, my nurse noticed something wasn’t right. When the doctor was ready to move on without further investigation, she stood her ground and advocated firmly for a CT scan. That scan revealed a complication serious enough to require emergency surgery. Her instincts were right. Her voice made all the difference. She anticipated my needs before I even knew I had them, and she treated me not just as a patient, but as a person who mattered. I genuinely believe her quick thinking and unwavering advocacy are what kept me from going downhill fast. She didn’t just do her job – she saved my life. To have someone fight for you that fiercely, especially on a day meant to celebrate mothers, is something I will never forget.
Thank you, Toniko, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
