September 2026 Honoree
Tomas Olivier, RN
I am honored to commend Tomas Olivier based on the circumstances surrounding a recent CODE STEMI on 4W and unsolicited feedback received from multiple physician leaders recognizing the significant impact he made in this patient’s care.
The patient had been experiencing persistent nausea, reflux-like symptoms, and epigastric discomfort that initially appeared gastrointestinal in nature. Despite interventions, the symptoms persisted. Tomas remained concerned about the patient’s presentation and trusted his clinical instincts.
He contacted the attending physician and advocated for an EKG to further evaluate the patient’s symptoms. The EKG revealed concerning ST-segment changes, and a repeat confirmed an evolving STEMI, prompting activation of a CODE STEMI.
During the Rapid Response, Tomas remained calm, professional, and composed despite the urgency of the situation. His vigilance, attention to detail, and willingness to look beyond the most obvious diagnosis were instrumental in identifying a life-threatening cardiac event and enabling the team to intervene quickly.
We are grateful to Tomas for demonstrating the courage and clinical confidence to speak up for his patient. His actions are a powerful reminder of the impact an exceptional bedside nurse can have.
Tomas exemplifies the very best of nursing: knowing his patient, recognizing when something was not right, trusting his clinical judgment, and having the courage to act. I am proud to recognize him and grateful for the difference he made for this patient and our team. He is highly deserving of the DAISY Award.
