I'm 90 and had surgery at MEE. When I was ushered into Pre-Op along with my wife, the nurse named Tobi took care of me. She was patient, a good listener, very knowledgeable, informed about my medical record, and anxious to make me comfortable. Every question that my wife or I asked was met with her taking time to answer carefully. If she needed more info, she went to get it.

When she gave me the cloth slippers to wear, it was obvious that they were too small for my big feet, so she cut the top a little to avoid cutting off my circulation! She knew I was concerned that the record showed my correct ear for surgery, and she positioned the computer so I could see for myself what my record said. And, she smiled.

This might seem trivial, but when a person is unfamiliar with medical procedures and older, the warmth, respect, and competence shown by a caregiver are so important. I could tell by the way she interacted with the surgeon and the anesthesia team that she was a valued member of my care squad. For that, I am most grateful!
