I am a 92-year-old veteran who has a hard time typing due to my neuropathy. I had to ask an employee to help type this for me because I wanted to especially recognize a special nurse who I believe went above and beyond. Honestly, I haven't always had the best experience with the VA, but my experience this stay has been great.

During my stay, I was struggling with difficulty breathing from my lung cancer, and Tina was there for me in a way that reminded me what true care feels like. She constantly went above and beyond, showing not only exceptional nursing skills but also being sympathetic to my needs. Tina's human touch reassured me as I was in distress. Human touch is so important as it comforted and reassured me during such a difficult time for me that I cannot put into words, which has been lost amongst people.

Even though I know she was busy, she always took her time with me, and I never felt rushed or forgotten. She showed exceptional work ethic and an even better bedside manner. She took the time to educate me about my medications before giving them to me, which I have experienced other nurses not doing.

I also noticed how much the attending doctor thought of Tina, as she was told she was a great nurse, and as they left, they gently touched her shoulder, a gesture of endearment toward her. That moment really struck me. Tina makes a lasting impression on both patients and staff.

She always went more than above and beyond, and that is why I want her to be recognized.
