Theo is everything the DAISY Award represents. She listens, she connects, and she goes above and beyond.
When my mom texted me from the pre-op area, the very first thing she said was, “I have the same amazing, awesome nurse as last time. Theo!” That message alone brought me immediate relief. Two years ago, Theo cared for my mom during a Cath procedure, and while Theo may not have remembered us, we never forgot her.
This time, before I was allowed back, my mom was alone and understandably anxious. Theo made sure she wasn’t just sitting there worrying. She was kind, attentive, and already working her magic to ease my mom’s nerves. My mom said Theo explained every step she was taking to prepare her and asked for consent each time before doing anything. She communicated clearly, treated my mom with dignity and kindness, and made sure she felt safe and respected throughout.
After Theo came out to the waiting area and brought me back, she started going over my mom’s chart and took time to connect the dots from her previous procedure. She had a warm smile on her face and was telling my mom she looked far too young to be there, joking with her and lifting her spirits. That moment completely shifted the energy in the room.
Theo’s presence made a real difference, not just for my mom, but for me as well. Her compassion, warmth, and professionalism turned a stressful situation into something manageable and even uplifting. To have had that kind of care once is rare. To experience it twice, from the same incredible nurse, is something we’ll always be grateful for.
Theo is everything the DAISY Award represents. She listens, she connects, and she goes above and beyond. We are so thankful for her.
