I am writing to nominate Tess, a nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary care and compassion during my cancer-related emergency. Tess's dedication, empathy, and professionalism made an immeasurable impact on me during one of the most challenging times of my life. From the moment I arrived in distress, Tess exemplified what it means to be an exceptional nurse. Despite the intensity of the shift, she took the time to listen to my concerns, ensuring I felt heard and understood. Her calm demeanor and reassuring presence immediately put me at ease, helping to alleviate the fear and uncertainty that accompanied my medical crisis. Tess explained every procedure and test with clarity and patience, making sure I understood what was happening and why, which was invaluable during such a frightening time.

Tess went above and beyond in her care. I vividly recall how she checked on me frequently, not just to monitor my condition but to offer kind words and a comforting smile that made me feel like more than just a patient. She took the initiative to ensure I was comfortable, adjusting my pillows and bringing me a warm blanket when I was cold. When I was feeling overwhelmed, Tess sat with me for a few moments, offering encouragement, which gave me the strength to keep fighting. Her clinical expertise was equally impressive. Tess's attention to detail and swift response to changes in my condition ensured I received timely interventions, which I believe made a significant difference in my care. She collaborated seamlessly with the medical team, advocating for my needs and ensuring that my treatment plan was carried out with precision. Her ability to balance technical skill with genuine compassion is a testament to her exceptional nursing abilities.

Tess's care extended beyond me to my family, who were also struggling during this difficult time. She took the time to update them on my condition, answering their questions with patience and empathy, which provided them with much-needed reassurance. Her kindness touched us all, creating a ripple effect of comfort and hope. Tess embodies the qualities the DAISY Award seeks to recognize: compassion, skill, and a deep commitment to patient care. Her actions during my stay at Vanderbilt not only helped me through a medical emergency but also reminded me of the profound impact a nurse can have on a patient's life. I am deeply grateful for Tess and wholeheartedly believe she deserves this recognition for her outstanding care. She is a true asset to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the nursing profession.
