Terri is a PRN staff member at St. James and has been part of the team for a long time, but her other job is being a school nurse.

A pediatric patient came to the Emergency Room (ER), whom Terri had been growing concerned about at school due to weight loss. The child looked sick. Terri came back and mentioned her concerns to the ER provider, prompting a blood glucose check. She knew the child had lost considerable weight recently and had been seen in the clinic.

Being concerned, she was able to provide better insight into the extent of the weight loss to the provider, and when the blood glucose came back high, along with other labs showing this patient was not only diabetic but in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Terri was able to help put that picture together. She was also a familiar face to the patient and her mother, and helped the ER nurse explain the next steps and how she would be there to support them back at school when she was released from the hospital.

This is a great example of the care and compassion Terri provides to her patients and her collaboration in her role in the community.
