Her leadership, initiative, and strong advocacy for both staff and patient needs have had a meaningful impact across the entire region.

I have the pleasure of working alongside Ms. Teri McCall, who serves as the nurse supervisor overseeing the medical department at Baskerville Correctional Center.

While I am not Ms. McCall’s direct supervisor, I work closely with her and have had the opportunity to observe her professionalism, dedication, and strong leadership within the correctional setting.

As the Central Regional Pharmacist for the Virginia Department of Corrections, I have the privilege of working alongside Ms. McCall and witnessing firsthand the exceptional level of care, professionalism, and dedication she brings to our patients and our staff every day.

Ms. McCall consistently goes above and beyond in her role. I have seen her take the time to sit down with patients and provide thoughtful, thorough education on the importance of non-pharmacological therapies. She ensures that every patient feels heard by patiently answering all their questions and addressing their concerns with empathy and clarity.

Her ability to connect, communicate, and empower patients sets her apart and truly exemplifies the spirit of compassionate nursing.

In addition to her clinical excellence, Ms. McCall stepped up without hesitation to serve as our Interim Assistant Regional Nurse.

In this capacity, she visited all 17 facilities in our region, performing audits, reviewing processes, and actively engaging with our Health Authorities to understand their challenges. She not only worked to resolve concerns at the facility level but also raised critical issues during headquarters supervisory meetings to ensure they received the attention needed.

Her leadership, initiative, and strong advocacy for both staff and patient needs have had a meaningful impact across the entire region.

At Baskerville Correctional Center, Ms. McCall continues to contribute significantly to creating a safe, supportive, and well-functioning medical environment.

Her commitment to maintaining a culture of safety for both patients and staff is evident in everything she does, from improving workflows to fostering collaboration within the department.

Ms. McCall exemplifies excellence in nursing through her compassion, integrity, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the individuals we serve.

She is a true asset to VADOC, and her contributions consistently elevate the quality of care delivered throughout our region.

For these reasons and many more, I wholeheartedly nominate Ms. McCall for the DAISY Award. Her work embodies the highest standards of nursing, and she is profoundly deserving of this recognition.
