She went above and beyond her role, and her impact on my postpartum experience — and my family — will stay with me forever.
Teresa "Tracy" Massillon provided extraordinary care to me as a lactation consultant during one of the most challenging periods of my life. My postpartum experience was incredibly difficult, and I was struggling deeply with breastfeeding. By the time I met Tracy, I was feeling defeated, overwhelmed, and unsure if I could continue. I had worked with multiple lactation consultants in the past, including with my first child, but none of those experiences came close to the level of care, support, and expertise that Tracy provided.
As a healthcare provider myself, I am familiar with what high-quality, patient-centered care should look like, and Tracy’s care stood out immediately. From our very first interaction, Tracy demonstrated exceptional clinical knowledge paired with genuine compassion. She took the time to truly listen to my concerns, assessed my situation thoroughly, and provided thoughtful, individualized guidance. Tracy offered practical tips, creative techniques, and clear explanations that finally made breastfeeding feel achievable. What stood out most was her patience — she never rushed me, never made me feel discouraged, and always met me exactly where I was, emotionally and physically.
Beyond her technical skill, Tracy’s encouragement made all the difference. When I felt hopeless and doubted myself, she believed in me. She consistently reassured me, celebrated even the smallest progress, and reminded me that I was doing my best for my baby. Her calm presence and unwavering support helped restore my confidence during a time when I felt completely drained. I can say with certainty that I would not have succeeded in my breastfeeding journey without Tracy. She went above and beyond her role, and her impact on my postpartum experience — and my family — will stay with me forever.
Tracy deserves all of the recognition and more; she is truly a rare gem. She exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents: clinical excellence, compassion, and a profound commitment to patient-centered care. She is truly an extraordinary nurse and lactation consultant, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided.
