I was moved to a shared room in the middle of the night after a 5-hour surgery and was very confused. As my doctor shared, I had terminal cancer while in severe pain, a nurse came in to find me to share, I had been taken to the wrong unit and would be moved. This change and the care by this RN were incredible for me and my family. Over the course of 12 days and over a holiday weekend, this nurse continued to provide loving care and check-ins. She ensured I was getting better. On day 11, I was very sad, wanting to be home with my family. She took time to take my wife, daughter, and me outside. She recognized that I needed some will to push forward. She was willing to take a moment to hear her patient while managing her staff. She takes on a lot! This RN ensured that nurses were following up, working with case managers on a very complicated discharge. I then returned after a few short days for four more days. She again paid attention to every detail and supported when nurses were unfamiliar with my complicated case. When being told you have terminal cancer, it is difficult to feel positive. This nurse was a bright light to help me stay positive to get out and enjoy as much time as possible. What an incredible nurse and staff she is managing. Thank you!
