Taylor thought outside the box, through a selfless act of kindness, she took him to the mezzanine level, offering him a view that he had not been able to see on his own for a very long time, giving him another setting even if it was just for a few minutes, this act was priceless.
Taylor's kindness, compassion, and professionalism do not go unnoticed! She displayed unprecedented care for M this week along with extraordinary service excellence by providing an unimaginable healing touch to a patient who has been institutionalized and under our care for over 2.5 years. His diminished cognitive and mental state often isolates him from social interactions which is further diminished by no family support. Nonetheless, Taylor went above and beyond by promoting the highest level of ethical standards with our patient by treating him with dignity and respect; offering M the human-to-human contact that we all crave. He is not able to verbalize his needs.
Taylor was able to give him a moment of meaningful stimulation and a feeling of normalcy with a simple yet impactful deed. Taylor was acting (in her eyes) in a manner of routine professionalism, providing care, performing tasks, and maintaining safety for her patients as she does on a regular basis. Her patience, level of developmental practice skills, and ability to think outside the box for a patient who has proven to be a challenge have earned her my nomination for this prestige award.
I observed her, throughout the day achieve the most valuable gift from M, our patient, as I witnessed him light up with a smile as she spoke to him with kindness and sincerity, she sat him next to her to maintain safety while she continued to perform other essential responsibilities of your workload. Lastly, and most importantly, Taylor thought outside the box, through a selfless act of kindness, she took him to the mezzanine level, offering him a view that he had not been able to see on his own for a very long time, giving him another setting even if it was just for a few minutes, this act was priceless. Although his mentation is medically uncertain, it was clear from the smile on his face that Taylor had tapped into something for the time being and had given him some sort of peace...even if it was temporary.
In the practice of nursing, this is the moment that is cherished the most and keeps us motivated...the moment that makes the difference.... the reason we are nurses! I commend Taylor and I am honored to have nurses like her on my team who are dedicated to caring for the elderly population, serving with excellence.
