April 2026 Honoree
Taylor Watkins White, BSN, RN
Taylor Watkins White came into work for the night shift and was immediately thrown into a difficult situation. The patient had coded on the floor and was transferred to the Surgery Trauma ICU for post-return of spontaneous circulation care. Initially, the patient's wife wanted all interventions, but a short time later, the wife made the decision to transition to comfort care. Clearly a stressful time for the wife, she quickly left the bedside and told the team to call her when the patient passed.
Taylor, being respectful and understanding that every individual has a different grieving process, ensured that the patient didn't spend his final moments alone. After palliatively extubating, Taylor brushed the patient's hair, played music in the background, and held his hand until he took his last breath. It takes a very special nurse to do that for a patient.
Taylor deserves to be recognized for her kindness and compassion in a sad situation. Her actions allowed the patient to keep his dignity until his death. She showed the utmost respect and honor for the patient.
Thank you, Taylor, for all that you do!
