I woke up with a feeling of massive lower abdominal and testicular pain. I’ve had kidney stones in the past, but this pain was much more severe, and not flank pain initially. I am from Albany but stayed in Saratoga for the night to visit friends. I went to the walk in- emergency room, sweating through my shirt, and in obvious distress. The registration folks initially saw that I was not doing well at all. I didn’t sit in the chair for more than a minute and was immediately brought into a triage area. A nurse, Taylor P took my story and was able to see that something was not right. It wasn’t a classic kidney stone pain and immediately got things moving just in case it was a testicular tear or something more severe. She was obviously concerned for my general well-being, and you could tell she was doing everything she could to get me moved into a room. She started an IV (first try), and immediately was able to get pain meds ordered for me. I was thriving and must have been a mess. I remember basically screaming into the bedsheet in pain. Nothing I’ve experienced before. I tried to apologize multiple times, but she remained calm and supportive through everything. They immediately gave me something for pain and Taylor along with the doctor guided me through the process. I don’t think I would have been seen quickly if it were not for Taylor’s attention to detail, and exam. I was diagnosed with a large kidney stone and passed it the next day. They were able to get my pain to a manageable level together, and I was able to go home in zero pain. I’ve never experienced such a well-oiled machine at work within a hospital. Thank you, Saratoga nurses, doctors, and staff, especially my angel Taylor P!
