My husband J passed away at Abrazo West in December 2012. He brought in by ambulance with a massive heart attack. The emergency room doctor met me within a few minutes of my arrival. The heart doctor explained J's situation within a half hour. He was taken to ICU where a nurse was in his room when I arrived. Her name was Tatyana Shishkova.
You are probably wondering what relevance this has after almost 6 years. The reason is that I still think about Tatyana speaking so kindly to me during the hardest time of my life. When I asked a question she stopped and turned to look at me when she thoughtfully answered. She spoke to my husband with respect and called him by name, even though I'm sure she knew that he was going to pass. I asked if he could hear me as he was in a coma. She simply said, we don't really know, but talk to him like he can. When it was time to take him off the respirator, she was there with a hug.
Tatyana still works at Abrazo ICU on the night shift. I have volunteered at the hospital for 5 years now, because of the treatment J and I received here. I still think of her often.
Nurses can make a lifetime impression on you and she did me.
