I am nominating Tarana Smith for the DAISY Award because she embodies the perfect balance of clinical skill and deep, genuine compassion. Tarana doesn't just "do her job," she transforms the environment for her patients and their families. Tarana’s care for A is exceptional. She is incredibly knowledgeable about his specific needs, which has built a profound level of trust with his family.

A’s mother shared that Tarana is one of the only people who makes her feel comfortable enough to truly relax and rest. Knowing A is in Tarana’s hands provides a sense of security that is rare and invaluable in complex care.

Tarana’s impact extends far beyond her own patient assignments. She is a vital asset to the entire team. She consistently takes the time to teach and guide new staff members, ensuring the next generation of nurses meets her high standards. Most notably, her reputation for excellence led other nursing staff to seek her out for help on a case that wasn't even her own. When she was asked to help another nursing case teach trach changes to make the staff feel more comfortable, she didn’t hesitate for a second. She stepped in immediately to share her skills, ensuring both the staff felt confident and the patient received the highest quality of care.

This month, she officially joined our Shared Governance Council, demonstrating her desire to be a voice for her peers and a leader in improving our clinical standards and culture. Tarana is a "nurse’s nurse." She is a mentor to her peers and a guardian angel for A.
