If it were not for Tara, I genuinely believe Dad may not still be here.
I am nominating Tara for a DAISY Award because she deserves to be recognized for the exceptional care she provides. Tara goes above and beyond for her patients; she is always willing to help and answers phone calls and texts promptly. More importantly, she advocates for her patients. She listens.
One time, I called Tara because my father was exhibiting his typical signs of a urinary tract infection. He had just had a urine culture a few days prior that was negative, but he was not acting right, being aggressive, weak, and sleeping a lot, which was his typical way of presenting with a UTI. Dad had also just gone to Hospice. They didn't know Dad well yet and told me it was probably "end of life" confusion, weakness, and sleepiness since he just had a clean urine culture. But I was not convinced. I called Tara and explained things to her that I was wondering if maybe, just maybe, the culture was wrong or if I could have acquired a UTI in the last day or two. I told her I was having a hard time accepting that it was "end of life," and I could not put him on comfort care until I knew for sure it wasn't simply another UTI. She was not dismissive; she listened! Dad's PCP was not in that day, so Tara advocated to the on-call doctor for my dad, who agreed to order another U/A and culture. Sure enough, Dad had a UTI! He was treated and is still with us today. If it were not for Tara, I genuinely believe Dad may not still be here. Tara has been there for us on numerous other occasions and cares for my dad. We are very grateful and appreciative of her. She is truly a blessing to your organization and us!
