She made a lasting impact on my mother’s comfort and on my ability to cope.
During my elderly mother’s stay in the Observation Unit at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Tapanga provided extraordinary care marked by patience, empathy, and clinical excellence.
My mother has advanced dementia, which can make communication and cooperation difficult. Nurses who shine with dementia patients deserve to be recognized for their patience and skill, and Tapanga is truly one of those nurses.
When my mother became confused and frightened, Tapanga slowed down, looked her in the eyes, and calmly reassured her until she felt safe. She helped my mother smile again during a very overwhelming time. She treated her with the same kindness and respect she would show to a beloved family member.
My mother needed an MRI, which is something that typically increases her agitation and restlessness. Tapanga made sure she had support every step of the way so she would not feel alone or afraid. She protected my mother’s comfort, dignity, and inner peace. Even in a busy unit, Tapanga never rushed us. She explained decisions clearly so I could understand and participate in my mother’s care. She cared for both of us, not just the patient in the bed.
Her advocacy, calm presence, and meaningful connection brought relief during a time of uncertainty and fear. I am thankful for her professionalism, compassion, and heart. She made a lasting impact on my mother’s comfort and on my ability to cope. She is the kind of nurse who changes people’s lives simply by caring the way she does.
