Her empathy and professionalism never wavered. It was more than medical care—it was a gift we will never forget.
Tanya is a hospice nurse whose compassion, skill, and dedication brought peace and dignity to my father’s final days—and comfort to our family during one of the most difficult times in our lives. My father entered hospice care just over a week before he passed. Late at night, he became suddenly agitated and restless. It was around midnight, and outside, a severe Texas thunderstorm was raging. I was hesitant to make the call, knowing how late it was and how dangerous the weather had become—but we needed help.
Tanya contacted me without hesitation and assured me she would come. When she arrived—soaking wet, well past midnight, and smiling—we knew we were in good hands. Her warmth filled the room. I apologized in advance, unsure of what my dad might say or how he might behave, but she only responded with calm reassurance. Her presence alone began to ease the tension. We had just received our hospice medications, but had no idea how to administer the morphine.
Tanya patiently explained everything and stayed with us for about 90 minutes. In that short time, something incredible happened—my father, who had been largely withdrawn for months, began speaking. To our astonishment, he engaged in a deep and lucid conversation with Tanya, sharing memories from his life with a clarity and pride we hadn’t seen in a long time. Somehow, Tanya had drawn him out of his agitated state and given him one final opportunity to connect—and to feel like himself again.
She gently guided us through the first morphine dose and made sure we were comfortable with the process. Her empathy and professionalism never wavered. It was more than medical care—it was a gift we will never forget. When my father passed, Tanya returned to be with us once more. She sat with us until the funeral home arrived, offering steady, quiet support. Again, she went far beyond what was required of her role, simply because she cared. Tanya didn’t just care for my father—she cared for all of us.
Her presence brought comfort, peace, and even moments of beauty in the midst of heartbreak. We will always be grateful for what she gave our family. She is the embodiment of what hospice care should be: compassionate, skilled, and deeply human.
