Tanesha's story epitomizes the core values of the DAISY Award: compassionate care, clinical excellence, and a genuine commitment to patients' well-being.
I am honored to nominate an amazing nurse. Her dedication to our patients and group is nothing short of extraordinary. She is the epitome of Northwell's values. Tanesha is the RN in our Gastroenterology department, and there a few stories that stick out but two more than most.
One of our patients was on a medication that had completely changed the patient's life in regard to her Crohn's disease. Unexpectedly, the patient's place of employment had changed health insurance companies, and the new insurance company would not cover the medication that this patient had been on for several months. Tanesha spent countless hours appealing to this patient's new insurance company until they finally covered the medication. Tanesha's dedication to her patients is unmatched. The above patient had other options for medications, but she was not comfortable with those and wanted to stay with the medication she knew worked. Tanesha listened and understood where the patient was coming from and ultimately got the patient the exact care and medication that she needed.
Another patient of ours with ulcerative colitis was again having an issue with insurance covering the only medication that worked for the patient. While Tanesha was working on appeals to the insurance company, she was also in contact with our Rinvoq representatives and was able to get the patient this medication while fighting the insurance. Ultimately the insurance company denied her many appeals, so Tanesha went a step further and helped the patient obtain financial assistance in order to stay on this medication. Both patients have had amazing results from staying on the medications that worked for them.
